For our second outdoor climbing trip together, the Dinosaur took me to the Gunks, a beautiful miles-long quartzite conglomerate cliff band in upstate New York.  Gear can be notoriously hard to clean at the Gunks, since each piece wiggles its way behind and between pebbles in the rock after it’s been placed. In the beginning, it often took me upwards of 15 minutes to free a piece of gear. “It just comes straight out, Snow Goose!” the Dinosaur would call down breezily…
